Taariq Al-Hashemi (Secretary-General of the Iraqi Islamic Party- Iraqi MB) has written a thanking letter to party leaders and Iraqi political entities for their support to the candidate of the Islamic party and the Iraqi Tawafok Front, Iyad Al-Samarraei to the post of a president of the Parliament.

 

Hashemi has also written letters to each of Jalal Taliban (President of the Iraqi Republic), Masoud Barazani, Al-Sayed Abdel Aziz Al-Hakim, Al-Sayed Moqtada Al-Sader, Mr. Hashem Al-Hashemi, Mr. Salah Eldin Bahaa Eldin and Dr. Iyad Allawi as he thanked them for their stance to the candidate of the Islamic party and the Iraqi Tawafok Front.

 

 

He also sent two congratulation cards to the members of the Iraqi Parliament and another one to Iyad Al-Samarraei for his new post as a head of the parliament, the letter stated the following “I have no doubt that you are professional and in coordination with your brothers who granted you their trust in the Parliament will ease many difficulties and challenges which might face you in the future and you will find me always ready to help you in this field, I again congratulate you”.

 

Khaled Al-Ateya, Acting president of the Iraqi parliament, has announced on Sunday 19.04.09 the winning of the Iraqi Tawafok Front’s candidate Iyad Al-Samarraei as a president of the parliament after winning majority of votes.

 

 

He won an overall of 153 votes out of 232 whereas his opponent Dr. Mostafa Al-Heiti (member of the National Dialogue Front) won 34 votes and 45 papers were left blank.

 

By this Samerraei has won the absolute majority, which led to his presidency of the Iraqi Parliament.
