Member of MB Parliamentary Bloc MP Abdul-Hamid Zaghloul presented an urgent statement to the Minister of Interior about the torture of the student Ahmed Abdul-Fattah Abdul-‘Al at the hands of a state security officer with the cooperation of Alexandria University (Damanhour branch) guards in the Damanhour state security headquarters after arresting him on campus during his participation in a pro-Gaza event.  Two security officers had used the severest techniques of physical torture against the student including electrification several times.

The Attorney General considered the torture incident a crime added to polices’ black records explaining that the Interior’s practices contradict the minimum level of ethics, humanitarianism, and mercy, as they transgress all legitimate and constitutional boundaries and reflect the extent of aggression in the individuals of the security institution and its consequences of sowing increasing hatred in Egyptians towards the security institution, a matter which necessitates a strong stand, decisive move, and immediate and firm accountability for these transgressions which ring the bell of danger and pose a true and direct threat to Egyptian national security.

Ahmed Abdul-Fattah, Alexandria University (Damanhour branch) student was arrested earlier by Damanhour State Security forces and was taken to their headquarters where he was blindfolded, harshly beaten, insulted, stripped from his clothes, and placed in a room at maximum cold temperature until he physically collapsed.  He was also electrified and forced to bend down and kiss the feet of a state security officer.  His personal and college ID were also taken.

In a similar context, “My Right” Legal Center had issued a statement in which it expressed its solidarity with the student Ahmed Abdul-Fattah and its complete refusal of violence and requested the holding of those suspected accountable for their actions and called on media and human rights institutions to follow up on this case and its details so that the truth may be exposed to Egyptians and the world.
