Haneyya government resolves misunderstanding with UNRWA

Representatives of the Palestinian government in Gaza, led by Ismail Haneyya, on Friday resolved the misunderstanding between the government and UNRWA over the past couple of days, Taher Al-Nunu, the government spokesman said.

He added in a press statement that the health minister, Dr. Basem Naim, and the cabinet secretary, Dr. Mohammed Awad, attended the meeting with UNRWA commissioner general Karin Abu Zaid.

Nunu said that the government explained the situation and briefed the UN official on certain information that she was not accurately informed about.

He underlined that a number of arrangements and mechanisms were approved to avoid recurrence of such misunderstanding in future, and asserted that UNRWA would resume operations in full in the Gaza Strip.

Nunu had earlier told the PIC that his government was keen on maintaining strong relations with UNRWA, and denied that it impeded the agency”s work or seized its trucks.

He clarified that the government detained six trucks to make sure they had proper papers, and hence they would be released.

The spokesman affirmed that none of the government”s bodies had seized goods from the UNRWA warehouses.
