MP Khudari hails Euro parliament for not voting to raise relations with Israel

MP Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the popular committee against the siege, on Thursday hailed the European parliament for deciding to postpone the vote to raise the level of relations between the European Union and Israel because of the latter”s blockade on the Gaza Strip.

In a press statement to the PIC, MP Khudari said that this decision is a step in the right direction and one of the steps to pressure Israel to end its siege and aggression on the Gaza people, calling on the international community to put more pressures on Israel to lift its siege.

The European parliament had postponed the vote to raise the relations with Israel to next January, calling on Israel to lift its siege on Gaza for humanitarian reasons.

The socialist bloc, the second largest bloc in the European parliament which strongly supported the decision, said that the current situation does not allow the vote on the decision because Israel is not committed to human rights in accordance with partnership agreements it signed with the EU.

The bloc noted that the end of the Israeli siege on Gaza and the progress in the peace process are prerequisites to raise the level of European relations with Israel, adding that the parliament is waiting a reply to this demand.
