Call for Lifting MP’s Immunity Reveals Blatant Despotism, Ignorance: MPs Media Spokesman

Media Spokesman of The Muslim Brotherhood Parliamentary Bloc Dr. Hamdi Hassan stated to Ikhwanweb that the request to lift the parliamentary immunity of the MB Member of Parliament Hamdi Zahran by the president of Bany Sweif University Dr. Ahmad Refaat reveals “political ignorance” and “blatant despotism.”

The MP Hamdi Zahran requested a briefing from Prime Minister Ahmad Nazif and Minister of Higher Education Hani Helal based on the report of the Central Accounting Agency, concerning irregularities done by Bany Sweif University. Hassan said that the university president requested the canceling of the MP’s parliamentary immunity rather than solving mistakes.

Hassan added that the university president wanted to punish the MP for doing his duty in the public control, where the MP is on behalf of the people, denouncing the way people’s deputies are treated. He said that the aim of the immunity given to the MP is to protect him, so that he can do his duty and his mission in public surveillance of the government.

Hassan urged the government to teach the one who requested this, what public surveillance and political action are, and he said that the reaction taken by the parliament is the correct one, where the parliament refused the request of the university president.
