Dr. Ahmad Abu Baraka (member of the parliamentary bloc of MB and member of the legislative committee in the parliament) strongly condemned the postponement of the Bar Association elections, saying it mirrors concerns about an MB victory.

Abu Baraka stated to Ikhwanweb that the government intended to postpone the lawyers elections through targeted groups from the ruling party just to obstruct the elections. He confirmed that this action reflects the fear of facing the MB and the opponents in the syndicate elections and panic from his candidates’ possible loss due to their low popularity and opportunities among the General Assembly.

He added that the effect of this postponement on the General Assembly is questioned, referring to the recent scandals of the security list supported by the government.

The judicial committee supervising the Bar Association postponed the elections till next November 14  –the association general elections- where the period of propaganda increases for a month and four days, after it was decided to start the elections on next October 10.

Chancellor Refaat Assayed (President of the Judicial Committee in charge of Secretary of the Fund of the Bar Association), said that the committee postponed the elections as demanded by some candidates because of the holy month of Ramadan and the difficulty of campaigning then. As for the MB lawyers in the syndicate, they threatened to appeal the decision, criticizing the postponement of the elections, as they find that the reason is to please Sameh Ashur (the pro-NDP ex-Syndicate Chief) who pushes sub-syndicates to request for postponement.
