How a State Security Officer Turned Into a Brutal Killer?

How a State Security Officer Turned Into a Brutal Killer?

If you ask this question to a member of the Kifaya (enough) movement, or a leader in any other opposition parties, their spontaneous answer would be that it is in their nature and an essential course in their studies and that they are the ones who torture citizens in the Lazoughly and Gaber ibn Hayyan prisons, and sexually abuse both men and women, then come out in public to quote from thousands of reports issued by Egyptian and international human rights societies and centers.*

One may refer to the torture case of Emad el-Kabir, the Matariyyah girl, the Tilbana carpenter, the victim of Shaha, the ’Imraniyyah carpenter, or Siwa’s burnt victim to infer the bloody nature of police officers in general and state security officers in particular…But the question is deeper than for it to be answered by an opponent or a rights activist who is manipulated by his ideological and political agenda, or by a police officer who may want to take revenge from his former institution.

The question requires an answer by specialists in psychology and clinical psychology who can describe to us the personality of the lieutenant colonel Mohsen el-Sukkary, who is accused of killing and mutilating the body of the Lebanese singer Suzan Tamim in Dubai, and explain to us whether the reason for his act was his leaving service, and hence, power, wealth, and authority, or enticement by money to form a close relationship, or the passion for possession, or the feeling that there will be no evidence to condemn him, or all these reasons together.  Mohsen el-Sukkary, a former lieutenant colonel, used to work for the state security bureau of investigation.  All agree that his life resembled the role that Abbas Abu el-Hassan outstandingly played in the movie “Ya’qubian Building,” who felt that all his enemies- former prisoners, imprisoned relatives, released criminals, and protestors afflicted by his torture- wanted to take revenge from him, or that they are greater than normal victims, as his list of enemies included ministers, officials, and businessmen who were harmed by him in one way or another.

Many tried to link what Mohsen el-Sukkary did to Suzan to the blood bath carried out by Hamza el-Basyouni, or that of Salah Nasr in the beginning of the Nasserist regime except that the latter was actually in the last phases of his psychological and neural disease according to experts in those fields and according to the artist I’timad Khurshid who had been his wife for some time, and whom he had shown the barrels of chemical substances which he used to put his victims in and the killing techniques he used that were not even known to Hitler, the Nazi.  In addition, el-Sukkary had not committed that great number of appalling crimes that were skillfully signed by Salah Nasr.

The question thus remains:  Why did el-Sukkary turn into such a brutal killer?  During his service period, el-Sukkary was in a relationship with the daughter of one of the ministers, but had not married her because of her father’s refusal which led to his attempt to marry her in spite of her father’s disapproval.  This, in turn, led to the minister’s attempt to expel him from authority with the help of another minister who also had his strong reasons for taking revenge from el-Sukkary.  The latter’s son had tried to form a relationship with the daughter of the first during the peak of her relationship with Mohsen who upon discovery of that, sent the young man a prostitute who completely possessed him to the extent of leading him into drug addiction of all kinds.  The young man underwent rehabilitation for a long period in Dr. Gamal Abu el-Azayem and ’Adel Sadek’s hospital in Nasr City.  Therefore, the two ministers allied against Mohsen to punish him.  After leaving service el-Sukkary founded a private security guard company in Sharm el-Sheikh which opened the way for his relation with the Saudi Prince al-Waleed Ibn Talal and from there his relation with the businessman Hisham Tal’at Mustafa, as his company was the one responsible for guarding The Four Seasons hotel in the tourist or political city.

El-Sukkary had previously gone to Iraq with the support of Orascom, which is owned by the businessman Naguib Saweeris, where he claimed that he was kidnapped by the Qaeda, and compelled Saweeris, who wanted to pull himself out from any disaster his name was involved in even though he may have had nothing to do with it, to pay the ransom which el-Sukkary eventually received.  In fact, it is said that el-Sukkary had made an agreement with the kidnappers to kidnap the four engineers, then negotiated the ransom payment with them, which amounted to a million dollars, and divided it amongst them.

We are therefore talking about a man who wanted to create an empire of his own, especially after becoming closer to Hisham Tala’at who is obsessed with the fear of his reputation being ruined, and who is very generous with any paper that attempts to criticize him, and who is initiative in supporting philanthropic projects that cost millions, such as the Chastity Bank Project and his backing of the Food Bank, upon the mention of his name in any case.  Thus, he was able to build a close relationship with him within a short period of time, especially taking into consideration the keenness of a number of businessmen to employ former police officers although Hisham’s possessions and power in the government and People’s Assembly are greater than those of the police.  However, it is shaken power, if we may call it, because of his love for the desires of women and accumulated wealth of gold and silver.  In fact, one employee in the stock market assured that Hisham had a crazy passion for women, but does not like to do what is Islamically prohibited, so he resorted to customary marriage as a way for legalizing his pleasure.  He had married the artist Nora for a long time and then divorced her, and she found out that he had married three months ago the ex-wife of the television presenter who was famous for his show that took place in a big car in one of the squares, and which did not find acceptance among the audience.

Then when Suzan first appeared in the life of Hisham only as a trust given to him by al-Waleed in order to protect her until her problem with her husband was over, Mohsen formed a relationship with her.  I cannot determine the degree of this relationship, but a close companion of Hisham assured that it was a strong one and that she spent many private times with him, which could have incited her killing in such a brutal way.  Did he kill her for himself, or on the behalf of someone else?  Did she discover one of his most dangerous secrets, for example, that he was taking advantage of Hisham in private work, or that he was being used by competitors against Hisham?  And if he was only executing the orders of another person, why was it with such brutality?  Is it devotion and sincerity in execution for the amount of money that has been said he earned?  In any case he is a man who no longer stands against the wall, for he has shot at all people, the first of them being himself.
