MB second deputy chairman Khairat El Shatter was not able to complete his treatment at Al Manial University Hospital Tuesday due to the absence of his specialized doctor, security officials told his family.

He was transported to the hospital supposedly to receive treatment of his inflamed knee. Prison officials said he will return to the hospital next July 20.
El Shater has been catheterized last month.  Doctors say he suffers from defected coronary artery and obstructed artery, but confirmed his health is expected to improve if he receives the necessary treatment.

Saad El-Shater, his elder son, told Ikhwanweb that his father’s imprisonment has had many negative impacts on his health. Saad indicated that his father has been denied to follow up with his private doctor or to periodically visit the hospital.

Regarding the family’s desire to call for El-Shater’s release due to health conditions, Saad said that they hadn’t decided about this issue yet.

They may do this if security officials continue their harassment of his father every time he visits hospital. But, he said, his father should not have been convicted in the first place because the charges were trumped up and the military tribunal has violated many of the due process needed in a fair trial. So there are other legal reasons to release him as soon as possible, his son told Ikhwanweb.

El Shater suffers from diabetes that led to worsening his health in prison as well as nervous inflammation due to diabetes that cause regular pain in legs. He also suffers from high blood pressure exacerbated by the tension he and others face in the prison.
Amnesty International stressed that El Shater suffers from serious health conditions and that he needs adequate medical care which the prison hospitals do not provide.
