Barhoum: Abbas exploits Palestinian suffering to serve occupation

Hamas has considered calls made by President Abbas for a so called “ceasefire” was an attempt to exploit the suffering of the Palestinian people to serve his own personal interests and to protect the occupation.

Fawzi Barhoum, the Hamas spokesman in the Gaza Strip, said on Thursday that what Hamas and other Palestinian resistance factions are doing is no more than responding to the continued Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people, the latest of which was the bombing of the agricultural school in Beit Hanoun killing a teacher and wounding several students, and that Abbas”s call for a ceasefire is a form of blackmailing the Palestinians into giving up their right to resist occupation.

Barhoum emphasized that the problem is not with the Palestinian people or the resistance factions, but the problem is with the occupier which is implementing a scheme of starvation and destruction against the Palestinian people to force them the kneel and give up their inalienable rights.

Barhoum called on Abbas to stop his security coordination with the occupation and to work instead on healing the internal rift if he was really concerned about Palestinian security instead of putting forward schemes that protect the security of the occupiers.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA had reported earlier that Abbas  was ready to work on yet another ceasefire.
