Egyptian government rejected a US suggestion of relocating more than 800000 Palestinians living in Gaza and sending them to live in the Sinai Peninsula, enraging Washington which is exercising heavy pressures on Cairo to endorse such a suggestion. The Egyptian side stressed on rejecting the suggestion of sheltering Gaza citizens and Palestinians of Diaspora in Egyptian territories because this is in fully in contravention to the UN-backed right to return. Egypt has instead expressed its full support to the Palestinians" right to return to their territories.

The Israeli side used the US aid as a bargaining chip threatening with working for stopping the US aid if Egypt maintains its tough attitude toward the suggestions of sending Palestinians into its territories. This actually made Cairo tell Tel Aviv that that it will take a package of punitive measures towards it if it goes on in its attempts to carry out this project of relocating the Gazans.Egypt threatened with freezing the crossings agreement which it signed with Israel and the Palestinian Authority under a European supervision, cancelling the information exchange security agreement, and threatened also with cancelling the second meeting of the Egyptian-Israeli committee, in response to Israeli relocation plans.

For his part, Essam El-Erian, a top leader in the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), told Ikhwanweb that a relocation of the Palestinians on Egyptian territories should never be accepted. He added that not only the governments but also Arab people and conscience don"t accept that the Palestine people are relocated in any territory other than theirs. The support of the Arab countries to Palestine will be on its own territories.Al Erian confirmed that the US aid which is frequently used as a bargaining chip against Egypt will end one day as it was a high cost for holding a single reconciliation treaty with the Egyptians.
