Faisal Mawlawi, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Group in Lebanon called on opposition in Lebanon to "stop attempts of to hinder reaching reconciliation in the country".
"If opposition seeks participation, which is its right, but participation should be through institutions, not like what opposition is doing nowadays of distrusting institutions, and preconditioning a consensus before election, plunging Lebanon into a crisis", said Mawlawi.
"Some say that there is no problem to keep it as is till elections, who knows whether elections will be held at that time?. Has any one wondered under which government will these elections be held and under which law?. If we are approving a presidential candidate, why don"t we elect him to allow him to take part in reaching a solution and hence the government which opposition complains of will come to an end constitutionally", said Mawlawi.
Mawlawi saw that " The Lebanese resistance was lured to an internal political conflict and it lost Lebanese people"s support restricting the support to a specific section. The resistance lost also Arab and Muslim support".
"The resistance should get out of this conflict, end its obsessions, and we will support it and back it to maintain its path because we and the majority consider the Lebanese people are a red line which mustn"t be trespassed", said the Islamic leader.
He also called on loyalists to avoid the 50%+1 option regardless of its constitutionality because the election through this may lead to an internal conflict". He also called on those who are skeptical of the role of the resistance to stop this because " we want to keep the glorious resistance". He also rejected statements of those who saw that losses in the July 2006 war are more than benefits" because there are many achievements and we as a part of the resistance want to live with dignity which will be reached only through resistance" .
"Some give the impression that rights of the Christians are violated, which is incorrect. The Taif Agreement is the document which we approved. It is a deal which gives every sect its rights. We refuse that any Christian in Lebanon face any harm, but some seemingly want to make a new problem called "rights of Christians".
