Mohsen Radi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) parliamentary bloc, called for canceling the Supreme Press Council, which is affiliated to the Shura Council, and headed by Safwat Al Sharif, the Secretary-General of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP). Mohsen Radi said that all opposition powers in parliament will start collecting signatures from MPs to reach the third quorum which is required for submitting a new request at the beginning of the next parliamentary round that starts from next November, 7th, to introduce an amendment in the Egyptian constitution for canceling Supreme Press Council. This amendment aims to cancel this council because it is conflicting with interests and targets of the freedom of the press in Egypt and the interests of the journalists and it harms the guarantees they should enjoy to show that such freedom is viable .

In a related context, engineer Ibrahim Abu Awf, a member of the MB parliamentary bloc,  lashed out at the fatwa (religious edict) issued by Al Azhar Sheikh in which he ordered whipping rumormongers eighty lashes according to the Holy Quran. He said this while marking the Night of Revelation. The MP said in an urgent question that he submitted to the Prime Minister, being the minister of Al-Azhar affairs, why is religion exploited when it is related to serving the regime and why is religion sidelined when it is related to political opposition from all ideologies without any regard to interests of the homeland and citizens?.
