MB Defense Panel demands adjourning the Financial Committee Testimony on today’s session

The fifteenth session of the MB military tribunal will be resumed today (April 24, 2007) in the Huckstepp military base. Such tribunal trying 40 MB leaders including engineer Khairat Al Shater, the second deputy chairman of the group.
Saturday”s fourteenth session has witnessed interrogating 9 of the State Security Police officers. The defense team members have previously requested interrogating 12 police officers; however, 3 officers have not shown up in that tribunal without any excuse.
Calling both Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Al-Azhar university chairman, and Dr. Ezz El-Deen Al-Sawi, the university deputy chairman, was postponed to unappointed time.
Ikwanweb has been informed that the defense panel, defending the MB leaders referred to military tribunals, would apply a request to the military tribunal chief to adjourn the testimony of the financial committee.
The financial committee has previously prepared its report on the companies, money, and other belongings of the detained Muslim Brotherhood leaders, and was supposed to discuss it on today”s session.
On the other hand, Naser Al-Hafy, member of the defense panel, has stated that such request for adjourning the committee”s testimony is due to the right of the defense panel to see and examine the reports written by the financial committee.
He clarified that such reports have not been received by the defense panel until yesterday (Sunday). Adding that such reports consist of 8 volumes, each of 500 pages, the reason why they did not have much time to examine.
Today”s session will be attended by an American Human Rights delegate, including Mr. Khurrum Wahid, a US well-known human rights activist and a former legal advisor to the board of directors of the US-Egyptian relations council.
Also Mrs. Nurah Rosalie P. Jeter, a US Top Human Rights activist, and Founder and Executive Director of the Muslim Women’s Institute for Research and Development (MWIRD), is expected to attend today”s session.
