Ibrahim Al Masri: Killing Antoine Ghanem Aims to Cut Majority MPs

Ibrahim Al-Masri, the deputy Secretary-General of the Islamic Group in Lebanon confirmed that there is a clear plot aiming to reduce the number of parliamentary majority MPs through maintaining the series of assassinations.

“The Islamic Group condemn this coward assassination that targeted Phalange party MP Antoine Ghanem. We see it as a part of series of assassinations spawning security havoc that actually leads to assassinating Lebanon and the Lebanese people” said Al-Masri in a statement to Ikhwanweb.

Al-Masri said Antoine Ghanem isn”t targeted as a person. The main target from assassinating him is to reduce the number of MPs supporting government inside the Lebanese House of Representatives, specially as the presidential vote is approaching.

Al-Masri added that most MPs and ministers of the majority are living under a heavy security guarding and most MPs live outside Lebanon lest they face the same fate of Ghanem. MP Antoine Ghanem had a less security so they managed to assassinate him
success in his targeting took place .

We thought that the assassinations series has stopped after a state of relative security stability in Lebanon, especially after House speaker Nabih Berri introduced the initiative which we hoped will lead to a consensus among the majority and opposition but it those standing behind these criminal operations has seemingly had another option .
