Over 100 Lawyers, Including Foreigners & Copts, Defend MB In Military Court
 
 
Muslim Brotherhood (MB) lawyer, Abdul Moneim Abdul Maqsoud, chief of the defense panel of about 40 MB leaders currently referred to a military court, declared that another defense panel is currently established.
H said the new defense panel consists of more than 100 lawyers including previous judges like:

Ibrahim Saleh, deputy chief justice of the Court of Cassation
Judge Samir Hafez
Judge Hafez Farouk
in addition to former military judges like:
Major General Abdul Maqsoud Ibrahim the ex-deputy chief of the military justice administration
Major General Sayed Al Sobki ex-chief justice of a military trial
Major General Yahya Qasem, ex-chief justice of a military trial
 
In addition to a number of incumbent MPs like
Lawyer Mohamed Al-Omda, independent MP
Alaa Abdul Moneim, independent MP
Saad Abboud, deputy chairman of the Karama Party
 
In addition to a number of university professors topped by
Dr. Atef Al Banna, a professor of constitutional law at Cairo University
Dr. Abdul Raouf Al Mahdi,  principal of the Faculty of Law, Mansoura University
Dr. Awad Mohamed, a professor of criminal law at Alexandria University.
Dr. Mahmoud Al Saqqa, a professor of criminal law at Alexandria University
 
The defense panel includes also some unionists like:
Mahmoud Youssef, the Bar Association chief in Al-Qalyubia
Mohsen Abu Aql, the Bar Association chief in Bani Suwayf
Salah Al-Qafas, the former Bar Association chief in Gharbiya
 
There are also some members of the Bar Association”s general board in Cairo topped by:
Montaser Al Zayyat, chairman of the freedoms committee
Mohamed Kamal, a deputy in the association
Hazem Abu Ismail
Nasser Al-Hafy
and some female lawyers like
Nagwa Al-Amir
Fatma Rabie who won a previous ruling of lifting guardianship over the Engineers Syndicate
 
The defense panel of the Muslim Brotherhood detainees include also a number of well-known Coptic lawyers like
Adel Ramzi, father of the Egyptian noted actor, Hani Ramzi
lawyer Fawzi Girgis
In addition to a number of prominent lawyers like
Ragaae Atiya, former lawyer of president Mubarak”s sons
Mohamed Monib, lawyer of late president Saddam Hussein and his deputy Taha Yassin Ramadan.
 
Abdul Maqsood pointed out in a statement to Ikhwanweb that the defence team has received several calls from some international human rights agencies, like the Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch and others, in order to coordinate the process of monitoring the military court sessions.

In a related context, Abdul Maqsood declared that the defence team will be concerned, during the coming few days, with preparing a list of the defense witnesses that will include a number of intellectuals from all political and party powers to present them in the second session of of the military tribunal scheduled to be held next June, 3rd,2007.
