MB MPs Threaten With Staging Sit-In Inside Parliament

The Brotherhood and independent MPs agreed on Monday on sending a memo to president Mubarak, demanding him to intervene in order to stop the executive authority”s aggression against the legislative authority.

Dr. Mohamed Saad El Katatni, chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) parliamentary bloc and independent MPs agreed on Monday at noon April, 30, 2007, on sending a memo to president Mubarak, who should strike a balance between the three authorities, demanding him to intervene in order to stop the executive authority”s aggression against the legislative authority .

“All options are on the table to confront the hideous aggression against MPs” said El Katatni, chairman of the biggest opposition group in parliament that claims a fifth of the seats.
He added that the Brotherhood and independent MPs discuss staging a sit-in inside parliament in protest at arresting MPs Rajab Abu Zeid and Sabri Amer.
This option of escalation will be most likely approved if the state security prosecution decides today to jail them, he added.

El Katatni said that the bloc phoned Dr. Fathi Sorour, the House Speaker, in Indonesia to do his duty of defending the dignity of the MPs and parliament. “We also sent a memo to the attorney general and demanded an emergency session for the People”s Assembly be held within 48 hours .

The MB bloc leader pointed out that they are to address the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the African Inter-Parliamentary Union to demand intervention to protect the MPs, given that the Egyptian People”s Assembly is a member in these parliaments .
