6000 Workers of Alex. Bolivara On Strike Again

Workers of the United Arab Bolivara Spinning, Weaving, Silk resumed their labour strike for the third time, protesting at the company”s broken promises to workers.

The workers of the United Arab Bolivara Spinning, Weaving, Silk (UNIRAB) resumed on Monday their labour strike for the third time, protesting at the company management”s broken promises to workers, including paying profits of the workers” shares, amending the system of monthly incentives, amending the category production, and settling promotions, un addition to dismissing all advisors who are close to the board director, and replacing them with those from the company, distributing dividends, and doubling shares for workers .

The workers were surprised with distributing an administrative circular on Sunday evening with of rejecting the workers” demands, increasing the anger of the workers, and increasing their insistence on continuing the sit-in and threatening with escalating the crisis because the Minister of Labour and the company management gave deaf ears to their demands; the factory was paralyzed, and machines stopped after the third shift workers refused to get out and workers of 7.00am shift joined them.

The workers have ended their latest sit-in and strike after facing oppressive security pressures that included power outage and preventing water, food and covers from reaching the workers inside the company before a meeting held between the workers leaders and the company officials, in which an agreement was reached for breaking up the sit-in and that workers return back to their work on Saturday March, 24, 2007 in return for promises of addressing their demands .

For his part, Saber Abul Fattouh, a member of parliament  and a top labor leader said:” The workers have the right to strike as long as the administration neglected the agreement inked between the workers and the management.

Aboul-Fotouh pointed out that the method that the government is adopting with the workers is serious and harmful; the government does not realize the workers problems except after they stage strikes and sit-ins; it even ignores their demands after ending the strikes; this is very serious policy that may lead to more strikes.
