Resistance Works In Favor of Arab Interest, Abul-Fotouh Says

After he came back to Egypt from Lebanon accompanied by a delegation of the Arab Doctors Union, Dr. Abdul Monem Abdul Fetouh the Chairman of the Union and member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Executive Bureau, said in a press conference held Saturday July 22, 2006, that despite the tragic conditions in Lebanon, he sensed a public unity backing the resistance. He added that the destruction of Lebanon by Israel confirms that it is not a question of two abducted soldiers but rather it is a “Zionist scheme for wiping Lebanon out of the map, taking the issue of the two soldiers as a pretext”

Meanwhile, Director of the Union’s Relief Committee Dr. Gamal Abdel Salaam warned of a human disaster in Beirut and South Lebanon now that about 40000 citizens have been displaced and live in schools and houses of worships, lacking any medical or nutritional care. He appealed to all humanitarian relief agencies to quickly send needed supplies to vctims, especially children’s milk and medications for heart, blood pressure and diabetes. Dr. Abdel Salam also pointed out that the injuries and burns among the victims show that the enemy used internationally banned weapons. He called for dispatching a fact finding mission from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Red Cross to witness the injuries and burns and report them.

On the aid extended by the relief committees, Doctors’ Syndicate Chairman Dr. Hamdy Assayed said that it is but a message to the Lebanese people that the Arab people are with them in their calamities and that they do their best to help them, adding that the relief supplies provided by the Arab relief agencies to the victims are badly needed now that the Arab governments backtracked from helping them. Dr. Assayed called for trying American President George Bush and his henchmen before the International Criminal Tribunal owing to the war crimes they have committed in Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon.
