Police Repression, Brutal Manhandling of Female Azhar University Students Raise Sharp Criticism

The female student section at Al-Azhar University witnessed Wednesday a blatant intrusion by the military junta’s ministry of interior forces that stormed the university campus in armored vehicles and personnel carriers.

The heavily-armed coup forces and junta militias carried out a barbaric campaign of arbitrary arrest and detention, abducting over 30 female students, roughly manhandling and dragging many others, and poured obscene abuse onto all students on campus.

For her part, Hafsa Al-Farooq, spokeswoman for Students Against the Coup – Azhar University, said on her official Facebook page: "In repeated heinous acts that recognize neither manners nor morals, the female section of the university campus is stormed by security forces along with armed thugs and other militias. They lynched and dragged female students like hunted game on the ground, and arrested at least 30 girls so far.
