FJP Leader Erian Tribute to Egypt Christians Republished

Last year, Dr. Essam El-Erian, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Vice-Chairman sent a special tribute to Egypt’s Copts for their ‘Holy Week’ and Easter celebrations. We republish Dr. Erian’s greetings once again as he is currently held hostage in the junta’s jails.

In a special message on his official Facebook page, Dr. Essam El-Erian said: "Egypt will soon be over all the pain and suffering, and will rise again from a death for long imposed by international and regional powers – with the help of a treacherous regime of corruption, repression and subservience.

"I offer my sincere greetings to all Christians, who celebrate today with fasting and remembrance, and follow the example of the Spirit of God, His Word and His Messenger, the great Jesus – son of Mary."

Referring to the start of the Coptic ‘Holy Week’ (or Passion Week), Dr. Erian said: "Our Christian partners in this homeland begin their week’s celebrations with observance of Palm Sunday (Salvation Sunday), then the days of Pascha (Passion), Covenant Thursday (Maundy Thursday) and Good Friday, then the rite of Joyous Saturday (Saturday of Light), ending with Easter Sunday (May 5, in Egypt).

"These days are the holiest days of the year for Egypt’s Christians. They are celebrated with fasting, remembrance and other dedicated acts of worship, religious assemblies and masses. These include the end of the Great Lent, 55 days of fasting."
