Muslim Brotherhood Secretary-General Mahmoud Hussein Refutes Hostile Media Myths

Cairo – Monday, November 25, 2013: A statement by Mahmoud Hussein, the Muslim Brotherhood’s Secretary-General.

Since the July 3, 2013 military coup, many media organizations, as well as officials in the military-installed government, launched a deliberate and vengeful campaign of demonization aimed at tarnishing the image of the Muslim Brotherhood, although they are fully aware the group is completely innocent of all their claims and accusations, such as terrorism and support for violence and so on. Some journalists falsely blame the group for every failure and flawed decision or action by the putschists.

However, by the Grace of God, the truth is always made clear, despite all the attempts to accuse, slander and lie.

The media blamed the Minya church incident on the Brotherhood, yet one of that church’s priests admitted openly that the Brothers were innocent of that violence. Then, the media blamed the Warraq church incident on the Brotherhood, and yet again it was proven innocent, with a number of Muslim Brotherhood members being among the victims, injured by attackers.

Earlier, the Brotherhood was blamed by journalist Mohamed Hassanein Heikal for an attack on his palace, yet investigations proved the innocence of the Brothers of the incident.

Hostile media persisted in their vengeful campaign in the notorious scandal, accusing Rabaa peaceful protesters of torturing a citizen and cutting off his finger. However, that citizen admitted openly that he was forced to accuse the Brotherhood of those heinous crimes.

The Brotherhood was also accused of killing some people in Rabaa Square and burying them under the platform days before the violent dispersal by coup forces. Nevertheless, the official forensic report confirmed that all Rabaa victims were killed at the same time of the massacre by the putschists’ security forces.

We reiterate, as we stated repeatedly, that the Muslim Brotherhood does not and never did use violence at any time, and that it certainly condemns violence in all its forms and whatever its sources.

True are the Words of God: "O ye who believe… if a wicked person brings you any news, ascertain the truth, lest you harm people unwittingly and afterwards become full of regret for what you have done" (Quran – 49:6).

Prophet Mohamed, peace be upon him, further said: "… and lying leads to immorality and wickedness, which lead to Hell-fire – a person may persist in lying until he is recorded as a liar before God."

So, how long will they continue to tell deliberate lies and do their worst to demonize the innocent?

God is our Protector. He is the best Guardian.

Dr. Mahmoud Hussein
Muslim Brotherhood Secretary-General
