Muslim Brotherhood: We Are No Advocates of Violence; We Protected January Revolution

Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Dr. Ahmed Aref reaffirmed that the Muslim Brotherhood is no an advocate of violence, nor does it ever seek bloodshed, citing the group’s role in securing and protecting peaceful protesters during the blessed January Revolution.

From an elevated stage in Rabaa Al-Adaweya Square, Dr. Aref sent a message to the opposition, saying: "We willingly volunteered to defend peaceful protests. Have you forgotten the days of Tahrir Square? We physically lay inside the treads of tanks around Tahrir Square so you would feel safe".

Refuting claims that if the Muslim Brotherhood stands down, Egyptian blood would be spared, Dr. Aref pointed that history and the 1954 experience of standing down proved that to be wrong. At the time, the result was bloody chaos, political repression, and dark dungeons for Egyptian political detainees – many of whom were shortly massacred inside prisons across Egypt.
