Egypt Parliament Denies Cancellation of Ballet Budget

In an official statement issued Saturday by the Shura Council (Egypt’s Upper House), Mohamed Abdel-Meguid Al-Fiqi, Chairman of the Council’s Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs, refuted recent rumors circulated in satellite TV shows claiming the art of ballet item was canceled during the debate on the Ministry of Culture budget.

"This never happened. The Finance Committee has not discussed the Culture budget. That was left to the competent committee, that is: the Council’s Committee on Culture. I am shocked to hear a famous writer made that false claim."

The statement did not mention the name of the writer. FIQI added, "I ‘phoned the writer in question. He told me that a Ministry of Culture representative gave him that inaccurate information. He then expressed his deepest regret and most sincere apology and offered to make up for his mistake in any way possible."
