Ramzi: Christians in Upper House of Parliament Largest Bloc in 60 Years

Mamdouh Ramzi, appointed member of Egypt’s Shura Council (SC), said that Christians are represented by 20 members in the SC, their strongest bloc in sixty years, saying: “Christians were never represented by so many under any former government in Egypt for long decades”.

During a televised interview on the satellite TV channel ‘Sada Albalad’, Ramzi said: “Certain opponents and critics object and criticize just for the sake of protest. If Christians are represented by a few members in any State institution, they accuse the regime of marginalizing them. But if Christians are represented by such a large number, they raise questions and suspicions”.

Ramzi added that he was not appointed to Shura Council based on Church nominations, but was chosen as a public opposition figure.
