Freedom and Justice Party Chairman Katatni: Egypt Needs All to Unite As in January 25 Revolution

The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) concluded polling for its chairmanship, Friday, with Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni winning the party’s top job.

Katatni received 67% of the FJP General Assembly’s total votes to choose the party leader, while Dr. Essam El-Erian received 32%.

For his part, Dr. Katatni, new FJP head, said that in the coming phase, Egypt will need every citizen to do his or her duty, since everyone has a role to play in this homeland, "I hope we can all return to the days of the revolution – united: one hand, one beating heart, in order to serve Egypt all together.

"I call on all patriotic citizens, groups and parties for harmony and togetherness. We may well compete in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, some of us may end up in the majority bloc, while the others may become the opposition; and we may well trade places over time. I hope such competition will be based on real election platforms, an indication of the success of the revolution."

Katatni stressed that national forces exchanging accusations will not achieve much, "We must tolerate one another. Everyone knows that common ground among Egypt’s various patriotic parties is much larger than issues in dispute."
