Press Release No. 2 of Dr. Morsi Central Campaign

Press Release No. 2 of Dr. Morsi Central Campaign

• Presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Morsi has cast his vote in the town of Zagazig, after standing with voters in line for an hour. After casting his ballot, Dr. Morsi said: "Today, a celebration of democracy is crowned with presidential elections", and urged the public to participate positively in the vote.

• Observes have witnessed turnout increasing extensively in the cities of Cairo and Alexandria, and some cities in Upper Egypt.

• Police have arrested a woman distributing propaganda materials for a certain candidate in front of a girls’ school in Helwan, in Cairo. Legal action is being taken against her.

• The Supreme Presidential Elections Committee (SPEC) has rejected the organization Observers for Protection of the Revolution’s complaint about a candidate violating the electoral silence period, carrying out election campaigning activities during the voting process.

A news website has reported that SPEC referred a complaint to the Attorney General against the candidate Ahmed Shafiq for violating the electoral publicity blackout rules by convening a conference, on Wednesday morning, as part of his election campaign.

• In polling site No. 7 at Akhmim Preparatory School, the supervising judge refused Dr. Morsi’s representative entry – in clear violation of the law – on the grounds that his papers were not stamped by SPEC’s seal, although they carried the court’s official seal as required. A similar incident took place in another voting station in Sohag.

• In a press statement, Justice Hatem Begato, SPEC’s Secretary-General, denied news of the exclusion of certain judges from a polling station. He stressed that there were only complaints filed and were being looked into.

• The presidential campaign of the candidate Dr. Mohamed Morsi rejected as totally unfounded claims on the Nour Party’s webpage that the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s MP in Beheira intervened with the security services to release a woman who used the identity card of another woman. Dr. Morsi’s campaign said the story is baseless.

• In Qena, supporters of a certain presidential candidate entered voting stations No. 41 and 42, dragged out presidential candidate Mohamed Morsi’s representatives and assaulted them. An official complained was filed regarding the incident.

• In Cairo, FJP supporters chased a car that distributed food stuff, claiming it was from the candidate Dr. Morsi’s campaign. The party’s supporters managed to effect a citizen’s arrest, delivering the culprits to the police. They filed an official complaint about the incident.

• Observes have reported that a police officer has been illegally directing voters to choose a specific candidate, in a polling place at a school in Beni Suef province.
