Beltagy: We Will Celebrate Our Revolution, Pursue Its Remaining Goals

MP Dr. Mohamed Beltagy from the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), confirmed, that the former People’s Assembly could not be described as a legitimate parliament since most of its members  came through rigged elections, and therefore failed to genuinely represent the Egyptian people.

He stressed that the current parliament’s main task is to translate the demands of the January 25 revolution into actual measures and legislation to achieve those demands

"If we want swift and fair trials for those who murdered the revolutionaries and corrupted our country then we must work on reforming the judiciary law to achieve its independence".  He continued, "If it’s social justice we crave then it is imperative we adopt a general state budget that would reflect the rights of the poor and less fortunate citizens".

Beltagy described the January 25 celebrations as the commemoration of a new era. He pointed out that the celebrations would revive the spirit of the revolution while pushing to achieve its remaining demands for which our martyrs have sacrificed their soul.

"We want neither meaningless celebrations empty of its revolutionary content, nor a funeral to express our sorrow for unfinished objectives. We have made enough achievements to celebrate, but there still revolutionary demands that have not been met, and we are determined to fulfill them"
