FJP Criticises Call For Presidential Candidates to Hold Debate in Washington

The Secretary General of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Dr. Saad Katatny, criticized news that presidential hopefuls including Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, Amr Mousa, Dr. Abdel Monem Abul Fotouh, Hamdeen Sabbahi, Hisham Bastawisi, Ayman Nour and Dr. Muhammad Selim Al-Awa had been invited to hold a debate during a conference to be held in Washington on October 23 titled "Egypt’s revolution, and the path to democracy and economic development."

Katatny called on presidential candidates not to accept such an invitation, stressing that it was an invitation from the US to intervene in Egypt’s affairs. "Such debates should be initiated on Egyptian soil and target Egyptian-oriented audience," he said.

The invitation had also been extended to US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton  and her assistant William Burns, in addition to Congress members John McCain and John Kerry.
