MB Offshoot Hamas Urges Egyptians to Postpone Gaza March

As Friday marks the call for the Million Man March in Cairo urging national unity, the safety of the citizen ‎and support of the Palestinian cause authorities have appealed to influential activists including the Muslim Brotherhood to convince demonstrators to withdraw from marching to Gaza.

Responding to requests, MB in Alexandria announced it would hold a major conference in support of the Palestinian people titled “Together to Support Palestinian Steadfastness” on Friday following noon prayers however it has called on pro-Palestine activists to cancel the rally they planned to hold aimed at setting off the march across the Rafah border into the Gaza Strip.

A campaign had called for rallies Friday and a march toward the border on Sunday, labelling it the “Sunday of Liberation.” The march is intended to mark the 63rd anniversary of the declaration of the State of Israel.

The statement issued Thursday, by authorities called on activists to give priority to internal issues and to prevent any repercussions that might result from this march.

An official statement by Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal has called on the Egyptian activists to put their plans to march through the Rafah crossing into the enclosed Gaza Strip on hold. Warning them of the military confrontation that might ensue with the Israeli occupation forces.

Finishing his statement Mashal stated that "As a Palestinian resistance movement, we cannot expose Egypt to the burden or to more than it can handle now,” he said. “We cannot call on it to engage in a direct clash or war with the Zionist Entity at the critical stage that Egypt is passing through”.
