Pope thanks MB leader for warm wishes

Egypt’s Pope Shenouda phoned Dr. Mohammed Badie leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, thanking him for the telegram which he sent relaying warm wishes and checking on his health, and safe return to Egypt.

Both men engaged in friendly conversation emphasizing the significance of the joint cooperation and unity of Christians and Muslims for the continued advancement of Egypt.

Badie highlighted that the MB stresses that religion does not factor into the equation of patriotism and the common goal of Egypt’s wellbeing. He rejected any suggestions there was sectarian strife or sedition noting that Muslims and Christians are hand in hand, and have been the victims of a dictatorship for 30 years and have all experienced unemployment, corruption, lack of freedom, perspective and fair elections.
