Human Rights: Al-Shater and Malek Are Regime’s Abductees

 The Egyptian Group for Law and Human Rights emphasized that Khairat Al-Shater, Deputy-Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), and Hassan Malek, businessman, are political abductees and are not being detained according to the Egyptian law or the Constitution.

In its statement the group explained that the detention actions can be described only as abduction despite knowing their whereabouts after being subjected to an unfair trial. They have been ignored for four years and arbitrarily treated by the government that threatens their basic rights to life, a fair trial and a legitimised release after the passage of half or three quarters of their sentence. This makes their detention considered abduction which has been planned and implemented by the government, which makes the government guilty of committing the crime of abducting its opposition.

The statement pointed out that the conditions of political abductees, Al-Shater and Malek in particular, in prison, who have been kept in solitary confinement, is a blatant violation of all international conventions and it also contradicts the Egyptian Constitution which explicitly outlines that prisoners have many rights.
