MB Secretary General: We Seek Neither Power nor Authority

Secretary General for the Muslim Brotherhood Dr. Mahmoud Hussein accused the Egyptian government of attempting to tarnish the image of the Muslim Brotherhood in the media and hindering the group’s efforts to publicize their ideology and principles to the Egyptian people.

In an interview on the "BBC" satellite channel Hussein asserted that the group does not seek power nor does it want to rule stressing that the country’s current atmosphere is not suitable for such an undertaking.

He added the Muslim Brotherhood simply calls for a civil state based on Islamic Law ‘Sharia’.
Regarding the group’s renowned motto “Islam is the solution” Hussein highlighted that this does not mean that civilians must convert to Islam. He maintained that in fact the Islamic Law acknowledges and respects that Copts in an Islamic nation will follow their religion’s laws and beliefs.
