Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, has charged that the visit by US envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell, was meant to legitimize the Israeli occupation authority's judaization and settlement policy in addition to covering up for the IOA escalation against holy shrines.

Abu Zuhri told the PIC on Saturday that a positive response to the American call for resuming negotiations with the IOA is a "national crime" that would only serve the IOA that did not cease its crimes against the Palestinian people.

He said that events proved the American bias in favor of the IOA, adding that the American administration's sole role is to pressure the Ramallah authority and Arab rulers to serve the "Zionist project".

For its part, Hamas's parliamentary bloc said that Mitchell's visit would not add anything new in favor of the Palestinian people, but rather would emphasize Zionist conditions.

It said in a statement on Saturday that the American administration was clearly pushing toward restoration of negotiations according to the IOA vision.

The bloc said that the pressures bore fruit on Mahmod Abbas and his entourage, wondering what four months of indirect talks would accomplish after 18 years of fruitless negotiations.

In a separate development, Abu Zuhri told a press conference on Saturday that Egypt was blocking his entry into its territory to testify before the prosecution in the case his family had filed on the death of his brother Yousef in Egyptian jails.

The family asked the Egyptian authorities not to evade responsibility and to open a serious investigation into the case and enable its members to testify in the case.
