Sabri, Salah Warn of Ongoing Digs Near Al-Aqsa Mosque

Sheikh Ikrima Sabri and Raed Salah warn of the threats posed by the Israeli digs under Al Aqsa Mosque.

Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, the head of the Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem, warned of the dangers of the Israeli digging and demolishing operations in Jerusalem and under Al Aqsa Mosque.

Sabri criticized the way Arab and Islamic countries tackle this aggression, describing the Arab pressure on Israel as falling below the standard of the challenge.

Sabri condemned the Israeli schemes that aim at Judaizing the city of Jerusalem and obliterating the remains of the Islamic Arab civilization in it, confirming that the violations taking place on the ground are targeting not only Al-Magharbeh Gate but Al Aqsa Mosque as a whole.

Ikrima pointed out- during a meeting held in the Arab League attended by delegates and ambassadors of Arab countries on Thursday after his meeting with Amr Mousa the AL secretary-general- that the digs are part of an Israeli scheme that aims at controlling the Noble Al Aqsa Mosque and expanding Al-Buraq region.

Ikrima demanded a quick reaction to stop the Israeli aggression, making a hint at the international reactions, including the Arabs and Muslims against Taliban Movement’s demolishing Buddha’s statue.

He wondered, in this regard, whether Al Aqsa Mosque is less important than Buddha’s statue?! criticizing the approach of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) which wasn’t objective or neutral. Ikrima concluded by saying ” The wakeup call has reached you; Al-Aqsa is not owned by the Palestinians alone; it belongs to all Muslims “.

Present, future

For his part, sheikh, Sheikh Raed Salah, the leader of the Islamic movement inside the green line and the chairman of Al-Aqsa Foundation said that the issue of Jerusalem is still considered, according to the Nation, a religious, historical and cultural right and a present and future right.

He pointed out that there has been continuous threats on Jerusalem since its 1967 occupation under an Israeli policy that targets the mosque through establishing a network of tunnels under it.

Salah revealed Israeli schemes aiming at establishing a synagogue at Al-Magharbeh Gate and another one at Al-Buraq Wall for Jewish female worshippers, after establishing a two-story synagogue under Al Aqsa Mosque and a museum called ” Convoy of generations” .

He pointed out that the Israeli tunnels are goining deeper to reach the centre of the mosque, while a group of cultural treasures dating back to the Ommiad, Ayyubid and Mamluke eras are under looting and destruction.

Warning

Sheikh Salah said that:” We in Palestine are facing tough conditions”, calling on the Islamic and Arab Nation to double efforts in order to save Al Aqsa Mosque before it is too late.

He warned that an Israeli scheme is underway aiming gradually at dividing Al Aqsa Mosque like what happened with the Hebron Mosque, pointing out that the plan will start first with establishing the synagogue inside the Dome of the Rock area, after that the mosque will be divided between the Jewish occupiers and real owners.

After the speech of sheikh Raed Salah, the Syrian delegate to the Arab League confirmed his support to the resistance of the Palestinian people, pointing out that these threats will not curb the Arab and Palestinian struggle to restore Holy Jerusalem.

The Syrian delegate pointed out that ” it is time to get rid of our political etiquette and show our respect to the struggle of the Palestinians at a time that deserves only holy fighters”.

It is worth mentioning that Amr Mousa, the Arab League Secretary General, received sheikh Ikrima Sabri and sheikh Raed Salah who gave him a detailed illustration of the threats against Al Aqsa Mosque due to the ongoing Israeli digs around it.
