Ismail criticizes security intervention in Egypt’s Universities.

Mohamed Abdel Baqi Ismail, member of the Muslim Brotherhood Parliamentary bloc, aimed an urgent request for info at the Minister of Education regarding the negligence to scientific and general researches.

Abdel Baqi highlighted that such negligence has resulted in 800,000 researchers and scholars specializing in different fields leaving the country.  He noted that the budget spent on scientific researches in Egypt is only 2% of the state’s budget compared to 98% spent on police and security services. He compared this to the 7% which the Israeli occupants spent on scientific research.

The MP criticizes the State Security Forces and the University Guards continuing interference in the universities’ affairs where individuals are not appointed or promoted unless loyalty to the ruling system is proved.

He strongly stressed the need for the development of education. He claimed this was possible by encouraging the members of the Educational institutes by offering higher salaries and the adhering of all to regulations and standards set for the promotion of professors. These regulations would be based on subjectivity, transparency and efficiency.
