U.S. Embassy in Cairo Refuses to Give Visas to four Azhar Preachers
The four preachers nominated by the Ministry for the United States are: Sheikh Abdul Hamid Al-Atrash, the head of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, Sheikh Ibrahim Al Fayyoumi, Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy, Sheikh Hassan Ibrahim Hassanein, and Sheikh Abdul Rahim Abdul Wahab, who were due to be distributed in al-Faruq mosque in Texas, the Islamic Center of Jersey, New York City, Abu Bakr Siddiq Mosque in New York, and the Islamic Center in Washington respectively.

The US Embassy refused issuing visas to four out of eighty Azhar preachers and Imams chosen by the Ministry of Endowments to revive the nights of the holy month of Ramadan. The embassy"s approval was delayed on account of investigations taking place to ensure that there were "no obstacles" according to US standards.
 
The four preachers nominated by the Ministry for the United States are: Sheikh Abdul Hamid Al-Atrash, the head of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, Sheikh Ibrahim Al Fayyoumi, Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy, Sheikh Hassan Ibrahim Hassanein, and Sheikh Abdul Rahim Abdul Wahab, who were due to be distributed in al-Faruq mosque in Texas, the Islamic Center of Jersey, New York City, Abu Bakr Siddiq Mosque in New York, and the Islamic Center in Washington respectively.
 
 
The Azhar and Ministry of Endowments have boycotted sending their preachers to the United States to revive the nights of Ramadan for several years in protest against the strict procedures imposed by the US Embassy in Cairo on applicants especially after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
