Challenge Filed Against Interior Ministry After Preventing Badi’ from Travel

The First District (People’s) Administrative Court will be looking into the challenge filed by Dr. Mohamed Badi’, Professor of Veterinary Medicine in Cairo University and Member of the MB Executive Bureau, against each of the Minister of Interior and Manager of Passport, Travel, Immigration, and Nationality Services, on the upcoming June 16.

In his plea, Dr. Badi’ requested the halt and cancellation of the execution of the administrative decision preventing him and his family from travel, execution of the decision in its draft form, and appropriate compensation considering the material, moral, and psychological harm inflicted upon him as a result of this prevention.

Badi’ had filed a request of approval for his travel to the Conflict Resolution Committee in the Ministry of Interior, but his request was rejected on February 2, 2009 leading him to resort to the Administrative Court.

The lawsuit filed by Badi’s lawyer Gamal Tagiddeen explained that after Badi’ and his family had obtained a ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) visa on March 29, 2008, they were suddenly prevented from travel without any reasons or prior warning.  Also, the Administrative Court did not mention any specific incidents leading to this decision of prevention.
