Ministry of religious affairs calls for protecting mosques in Palestine

The ministry of endowments and religious affairs in Gaza on Friday called on the Arab and Muslim peoples to urgently act to protect the Islamic holy places in Palestine after receiving reports saying that Zionist parties especially Likud municipality candidate Arnon Giladi intend to turn the mosque of Salma village in Jaffa into a nightclub as part of his electoral propaganda.

In a statement received by the PIC, the ministry called on the Arab and Islamic people to urgently move to protect the Islamic holy places in Palestine.

The ministry pointed out that the mosque is a sacred Islamic landmark and located in the Salma village, adding that the Israeli occupation took control of many of the holy shrines in the village after the 1948 Nakba through practicing piracy and fraud over the years.

The ministry expressed its dismay and shock at the silence voiced by all countries especially the Arab and Islamic states towards the crimes committed by Israel against the holy shrines atop of them the Aqsa Mosque.

Meanwhile, in a press conference held Thursday in the Shihab news agency headquarters, MP Ahmed Abu Halabiya called on the secretaries-general of the UN and the UNESCO to adopt strong and effective decisions to force Israel to stop its ongoing assaults on Islamic holy places in Palestine.

MP Abu Halabiya also urged the Arab and Muslim leaders, peoples and parliaments to assume their role in supporting occupied Jerusalem and providing moral and material support to strengthen steadfastness of Jerusalemite people and save the Islamic holy places.
