Arabic Network for Human Rights Information’s Website is Entirely Blocked in Syria

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information(ANHRI) denounced today the full blockage of its website in Syria by the Public Institution for Telecommunication this morning 29/9/2008. The Institution early had blocked a page dedicated to Syria Human Rights information, after blocking the ANHRI’s blogs initiative website katib.org earlier on the 25th of September.

ANHRI’s Legal Aid for Freedom of Expression Unit considers this action as a result of the full presence of security power and absence of rule of law. It is an expected outcome of the repressive policy, power abuse, and a widening authorities endowed to security forces to take control over state institutions. The Public Institution for Telecommunication has blocked ANHRI’s website implementing the security forces orders, that has a louder voice than law and constitution in Syria, a way would be disastrous to the Syrian authorities, before people, unless the authority redress such a grave fault.

Legal Assistance for Freedom of Expression at ANHRI confirms the Syrian Authorities’ Action as one of a series of violations have always been committed against citizens and human rights activists who strive for their elementary rights under a repressive, and dictators regime that works relentlessly to waste as much it could of the rights and freedoms, there for it has a horrific record in suppressing the advocates of freedom of expression, journalists, writers, political activists who are crowded in Syrian prisons.

ANHRI said “No wonder the Syrian authorities feel impatience with ANHRI website, in particular, Syria page which swarms with news of human rights violations, such as extrajudicial arrests, and enforced disappearance, that human rights activists, civil society activists, and journalists in Syria have been working to document them , and make their news domestically and regionally available at ANHRI website and other relative international organizations websites. ANHRI confirms that such policies can not stand against Arabic human rights movement to expose the deteriorated human rights situation in the Arab world.”

ANHRI, member of IFEX said “Syrian authority attempts to silence the voices that raised against its inhuman policies will fail, and the blocking what the Syrian authorities try to keep concealed uncovered will never stop those seeking truth from getting the knowledge. The Syrian action still a blatant breach to constitution and treaties in regional and international levels, specially international human rights declaration and the international convention for civil and political rights provide for the right to freedom to exchange information and the unconditional right to freedom of expression.” .
