Al Shater Cleared of Quran Translation Case, Sill Jailed Pending Military Case

Sayeda Zeinab prosecution acquitted Mohamed Khairat Al Shater, the second deputy chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood, in the case of the Quran translation case. Al Shater appeared before the prosecution on Monday morning over complaint no 508 of the year 2007 Sayeda Zeinab issued by the Artistic Classification Police that alleged that Al Shater is the manager of the Islamic publishing house and that he violated the conditions of the license issued by the Islamic Research Institute regarding the book of the translation of the meanings of the Holy Quran.

Khairat Al-Shater is along with other 39 Muslim Brotherhood leaders, currently under arrest pending the military case to which they were referred nearly a year ago .

This case in which Khairat Al-Shater is accused is about a translation of the Holy Quran which was printed by the Islamic Publishing House and was later burglarized by someone who printed another modified copy in a smaller size, causing some errors in printing and parts of some verses have dropped. Thus, Al Shater isn”t related to this case.

Al Shater said in a statement to Ikhwanweb after appearing before the prosecution that:”  This case is fabricated and I have no link whatsoever with it”, adding that this false case is another part of repressions and political settling of scores carried out by the Egyptian regime against the Muslim Brotherhood. These repressions began long ago before the “farcical” military tribunal which is reaching the year mark without reaching an end. Al Shater cited the false financial report to prove that there is no relation between the Muslim Brotherhood and the money laundry charge.

Al Shater pointed out that the maintaining the detention of forty MB leaders shows that this regime is authoritarian and that this repressive regime is politically bankrupt.

Lawyer Mahmoud Saber, the manager of legal affairs in the Islamic Publishing House denied any relation whatsoever between Khairat Al Shater and the Islamic Publishing House. He said that Al Shater is neither an owner nor partner in this publishing house. He said also that the public prosecution did not give any document to prove that Al Shater has any relation with the Islamic Publishing House.

Al Shater”s defence team demanded the public prosecution investigate with officer Emad Al Nawawi, the officer of artistic classification police, on charge of forging in official papers as he accused Al Shater of being owner of the Islamic Publishing House in clear contravention to facts on the ground.

It is worth mentioning that the Islamic Publishing House Co. was established by Omar Al-Tilmisani, the late chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood, and is currently run by Ahmed Hassanein.
