Int’l Observers Denied Access to MB Military Session for 9th Time in a row

International human rights observers have been denied access to attend the ninth session of the military tribunal- now held in Huckstepp east Cairo- trying forty Muslim Brotherhood (MB) leaders topped by engineer Khairat Al-Shater, the second deputy chairman of the group.

Ammar Qurabi, a member of the Arab Organization for Human Rights, was scheduled to attend Sunday”s session. However, he was prevented from attending it.

It”s worth mentioning that the ninth session, held on Sunday, Sep, 2nd, 2007, will witness a confrontation between 13 MB leaders transferred to the Military tribunal and the state security officers topped by lieutenant colonel Atef Al Husseini to complete his testimony, and lieutenant colonel Hisham Tawfik who is accused of seizing the private safe of businessman Hassan Malik and stealing money and jewels estimated up to one million pounds.

Asked why the number of international observers is fewer in Sunday””s session, Abdul Moneim Abdul Maqsoud- the defence team cordinator, attributed this in the first place to the permanent and continuous prevention of international observers from attending the trial sessions.

The ninth session has witnessed today a heavy security presence around the court and some relatives of the accused were denied access.
