Room of UK Journalist Yvonne Ridley Stormed in Cairo

Egyptian security forces stormed into the room of the UK journalist and pro-democracy activist, Yvonne Ridley, at the Cairo-based Semiramis hotel. They disheveled the contents of the room and seized some important press reports about her visit to Cairo especially her participation in some meetings supporting Muslim Brotherhood leaders transferred to the military court.

On her arrival in Cairo last Friday evening, the airport security forces told Yvonne Ridley that her travel bag disappeared. Cairo Airport authorities claimed that the bag disappeared in London airport. Yvonne“s bag resurfaced in Cairo later. Two days after Yvonne”s arrival, the bag appeared and it was revealed that it was opened, ransacked and some important papers related to human rights were seized from it.

Yvonne confirmed in a statement to Ikhwanweb that she will take all legal procedures towards such actions that distort the image of Egypt.

It is worth noting that Yvonne Ridley took part in an international human rights delegation showing solidarity with Muslim Brotherhood leaders transferred to the military court. The international delegation included Ramsey Clark, the US Attorney General, Samih Kharis, a member of the Amnesty International member, Ivan Laurence, the former legal advisor of the Queen of England. The Egyptian security services prevented the international human rights delegation from attending the session of the military court.

The British lawyer Ali Azhar was denied entry to Egypt and was deported to London after holding several hours in the international Cairo Airport .
